Yesterday was hard to get out after a my 'rest day'.
Mentally it was.
I love running becuase not only is it physical, but mental.
My first half marathon I thought it was never going to end.
My second, I figured out the mind trick.
You know you can run 8 miles.
Once you've gone 8 miles you only only have 5 left and you know for sure you can do that.
Honestly the hardest part about a half marathon (since that is the longest run I've done) is the last mile.
You're muscles are tired, you know you are almost there.
You just want it to be over.
The only thing that keeps me going is the last mile there are peole lining the streets cheering you on.
First of all, it feels amazing to have people cheer you on and tell you that you are doing a great job.
Definitely a confidence booster.
Second, you don't want people you know to see you walking.
How emberrasing would that be. ;)
That's how I play the mind game.
Also I know that my hubby and baby are there waiting for me and cheering for me.
I ran the Ogden Half Marathon last year in May.
5 months after having my baby boy.
The new mental game that kept me going was knowing that around mile 8 I would get to see my hubby and baby boy.
After that I would see them again around mile 10 and then at the finish line.
Let me tell you about the weather during this run.
It was pouring!
There were streams going down the middle of the road.
One part we go through a tunnel and there was about 3 inches of water.
It was miserable at first and then it turned into the best run so far!
We didn't have to deal with the heat.
Once we got running the rain wasn't cold.
And then seeing my family kept me going.
This is Mandee and I at the finish.
It was freezing once we finished and we are completely drenched.
I actually ruined my headphones and now they will shock me every once in a while.
It was so much fun but mentally I had to have something to keep me going with 5 months post baby and the rain.
My run yesterday was not as bad as the half marathon but I had to play mental games with myself to keep going.
So I turn it into "I have to show off for my hubby"
It's a fun game and we talk through our run.
Yesterday we did just over 3 miles in about 40 minutes.
We stopped and walked a little more than usual because Dev's knees aren't the best (he raced dirt bikes and they got jacked up) and he wasn't wearing his knee brace.
So we didn't push it too hard.
By our house we have some good hills so we still got in the variations that we're working towards.
When the weather gets really warm and our 3 miles are a piece of cake, we are going to start running trails!
I can't wait!!
We've got some great trails around here and I miss running them.
Tonight's run is going to be late because I have an awesome party to go to which I'll tell you about later.
Tomorrow we are going snowboarding all day so I'm hoping to have my run on the blog tonight since I'll be shredding up the hills with my butt tomorrow :)
First time boarding. Bring it on!
Happy Friday!
