Remember how in school it was the 'cool' thing to finish books really fast..? 2 or 3 days and you'd have that book finished. Now that I work full time and have time to read, I wish I was slower at reading. I just read Nicholas Sparks 'The Rescue' in 2 1/2 days, and now I am bored.. The book was so dang good that I couldn't put it down! I highly recommend this one! :)
I'm going to tell about the beginning of the book so if you are going to read it and don't want me to spoil, go pick it up and hurry and read the first 8 or 9 chapters!
Characters:
Denise
Kyle (Denise's 4 year old son)
Taylor (Volunteer Fireman)
20 people from the city of Edenton NC(small town)
Denise was trying to beat the storm coming and had Kyle in the back seat. As she was coming around a bend there was a deer in the road and she swerved trying to miss it and ended up losing control. In the meantime, Taylor was told that some power lines were down and he was going to check on them when he saw a car on the side of the road. The next thing Denise knew, Taylor was waking her up asking her if she was ok. As she was trying to clear her foggy mind she remembered Kyle in the back seat. When she looked back to check on him he was gone. (Like any mother, she cared less about her injuries and the pain and looked for Kyle) She told Taylor that she had to find Kyle and didn't care about an ambulance. They looked for him for a few minutes when Taylor told Denise that she needed to have someone look at her injuries and called 911. The rest of the Volunteers heard about the accident over their radios and because it was a smaller town, other people heard by word of mouth. About 20 people from Edenton came out to search for Kyle. The only reasoning that Denise could think of why Kyle got out of the car was because of the lightning. Kyle was really afraid of lighting and thunder. After 6 1/2 hours of missing, Taylor finally found Kyle in a duck blind huddled in the corner. Kyle didn't get hurt in the accident and was returned to Denise.
That was part of the book from memory but I kind of know how Denise felt losing a child and finding them again. Dee and I were at Bear Lake with my sister, her hubby and their two kids(ages 5 and 3). All of us were really tired and when the kids went down for their nap, so did the adults. My sister and I were asleep downstairs and woke up to my brother-in-law asking us if we have seen where my nephew went(5). Of course we though he was up in his bed asleep and my brother-in-law said that he was not upstairs at all.
Calm down...
Everything is ok...
He's here somewhere...
We searched the house and also the garage and bonus room...no nephew.
My brother-in-law went down to his mother's house and asked if he was down there....no nephew.
We all searched the house and yard shouting his name with no response.
I took my niece around and we pretending that he was playing hide-and-go-seek and he was hiding.
We couldn't find him so I decided to say a prayer in my head as I was holding my niece.
Where could he have gone?
He never wanders away from home...
Fear is starting to set in..
I get in my car and drive down to the lake.
He wanted to go play in the water and was begging us all day to go down.
I asked some fisherman if they have seen a little boy walking down by the water...no nephew..
Nerves are starting to kick in..
What happened to my nephew?
Tears start streaming down my face.
I drive two miles north watching the beach to see if I see a little boy walking.
As I drive back I see some runners on the side of the road and ask them..no nephew.
I drive back and forth a few times and by this time I have no idea what to do or how to help..
I sit in my car crying asking for Heavenly Father to return him to us safe and sound.
As I drive back up to the house I see my brother-in-law on his four wheeler with two kids....
one....two....
one....two...
I had no words...
I parked my car as Dee and my sister walked up to me.
Dee was soo worried about me because he knows how much my little nieces and nephews mean to me.
With tears in here eyes, my sister looked at me and said, 'We found him'.
I wrapped my arms around her and cried....
The people at Bear Lake are amazing!
Just by word-of-mouth, everyone living by the water was searching for my nephew.
There were people on four wheelers driving along the water, people walking around their property, it seemed like everyone on that side was searching.
After he was found the good news spread quickly.
All of us said a little prayer to find him as we were searching the house, the Holy Ghost told all of us the same thing, 'he's in the house', but because we all searched the house many times we didn't want to listen.
I can remember that voice in my head saying he's at home, go back home and look.
I remember the feeling too as those thoughts entered in my head.
Next time I will not hesitate to listen..
Where was my nephew found...?
HA!
After everyone fell asleep he made his way downstairs because he was cold.
He went into their play room and fell asleep under their little bear rug..
His body fit perfectly under it that no one could see him as we were looking through the house.
After about an hour and a half of searching, he came out and said, 'dad? why are the police here?'
The innocence of a little child.
I love all my nieces and nephews and never want to go through anything like that ever again.
Even though it is a funny story afterwords.. :)
